Mary Clegg MSc COSRT Accred, is an accredited Sex and Relationship Psychotherapist with a masters degree in the subject.  She has many years’ experience in working with the sexual and relational aspects of couples and as a result has a wealth of experience and expert knowledge gained from working with very complex client issues.

She is an integrative therapist with specialist training in sexual medicine and works mainly using Systemic, Psychodynamic and CBT models.  Mary has a proven track record in the delivery of extremely high quality training to healthcare professionals.  This is demonstrated in the outcome measures from around 30 presentations/workshops across the UK in the last 3 years. She has also been a senior lecturer and course co-ordinator at Sheffield University Medical School delivering the sexual medicine module to Student Doctors.

Many participants have written to say how much they have enjoyed their CPD with her and her outcome measures fully demonstrate the aims and objectives of the training event have been achieved. She has conducted masterclass-level training days for couple counsellors, psychosexual therapists, GPs, nursing and disability groups with the approval of the Royal College of Physicians and The College of Sex and Relationship Therapists. She is one of the trainers on the Rheum2talk programme organised by the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.

Training 2017

Mary has teamed up with Juliet Grayson to offer her Working with Couples Courses.  There are 6 modules leading to a Certificate in Couples Counselling.  They can be taken in any order.
Whilst theses course is designed for people who are already, or want to work with couples, they will be very helpful for all counsellors and therapists – including those who work one to one and Health Professionals who also do counselling.

      • Understood the 6 needs according to Human Needs Psychology
      • Looked at where you are with regards to these needs
• Thought about the stages of a relationship
      • Have watched and discussed some video of Anthony Robbins working
      • Discussed the ‘imago’ concepts of Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt
      • Explored developmental stages (attachment theory), and couple dynamics
      • Practised working with these issues as a therapist

Understanding different styles of thinking & different ways of approaching things

Based on the de-centring model of Dr Michael Crowe and Jane Ridley; and on meta-programmes from Neuro-Linguistic Programming

This course also uses video of a therapist working with a couple.

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • Seen a video of a couple in role-play using decentring and communication skills
  • Practiced listening for values, and helping a couple to discover shared values
  • Learnt about 5 different thinking styles (meta-programmes) that people use
  • Understood how meta-programme differences are a significant source of conflict
  • Learn what your personal meta-programme preferences are
  • Learn about language patterns that make communication easier
  • Practiced working with these issues in a role play situation
