Workshop with Mary Clegg and Ruth Hallam-Jones

BASRT approval for five and a half hours CPD

Working with complex clients and maintaining the therapeutic alliance - Additional Support for assessment and treatment of complex clients.

Mary and Ruth have teamed up to offer a workshop for therapists wanting to know more about how to work with complex clients. This workshop includes an opportunity to broaden your concept of what integration can mean and how to carry it out in a seamless way.  They have developed this course to give therapists up to date information on new ways of working, new educational resources and practical applications on treatment options for your clients in a fun learning format with plenty of active participation.

What is the complex client?  We all have our own view, however Ruth and Mary view the complex client as a client with multiple aspects to their presenting issues.  These may be physical and/or psychological, they may be biopsychosocially based too.  Whilst we do not wish to medicalise sexual health and sexuality, we feel that it is important to understand the basics of sexual medicine to integrate this into our assessment, formulation and treatment of our clients.

The very fact that so  many aspects need to be considered in this type of assessment may make it complicated and in some cases could be muddling for the client (and therapist).  The Client\'s needs are paramount and we have to be able to give them options and treatment choices whilst being broad based in our assessment.  Maintaining a therapeutic alliance is important and the Client and Therapist need to be clear and consistent on how, when and why to assess using this model.  Ruth and Mary will demonstrate how this can be achieved and give new  tools for this method of assessing Clients.
