Getting reliable help for relationship issues and/or sexual difficulties can be problematic.  Mary offers psychosexual counselling for couples or individuals with a very flexible approach.  Her warm and friendly way of working is mainly systemic, but she is able to work using CBT or psychodynamic models.  She is comfortable and confident working with all aspects of sexuality.

Mary Clegg is a qualified Sex and Relationship psychotherapist who can assess and advise on a range of relationship and/or sexual problems for individuals or couples. Mary is a graduate of the world renowned Porterbrook Clinic in Sheffield. This unique training enables her to assess and work with both the physical and psychological aspects of sexual functioning, together with the complex issues of couple relationships; the delivery of true holistic patient care.  This makes Mary an integrated therapist who can work with the sexual medicine and the psychologicaal aspects of a client.

Mary is the sex and relationship expert of choice for SAGA Plc and writes for their website as well as answering user’s questions. Mary Clegg is the Chair of The British Association of Sexual Educators (BASE). BASE is currently exploring the sexual education practice in 35 countries to examine resources and identify difficulties encountered. The long-term aim is to help set up training courses for sex educators and to underline this, Mary has delivered presentations to the 2009 international Sex and Relationship Education Conference.

She passionately believes that informed sexual and relationship information and education leads to better and more fulfilling relationships. She runs her own professional workshops for psychosexual counsellors, couple counsellors and allied health professionals with the approval of the Royal College of Physicians and The British Association of Sex and Relationship Therapy. She is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, British Society for Sexual Medicine and a general member of The British Association of Sex and Relationship Therapy.

 

Mary has recently taken up the post as Lecturer and Co-Ordinator of Teaching in Sexual Medicine for Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust at the Porterbrook Clinic and Sheffield University and she is involved in the training of students on the various training courses and co-ordinates the delivery of the undergraduate medical students’ module in Sexual Medicine.

Mary is a consummate professional and ensures that her message is always accurate, up to date and informed and aims to complete her Masters on female arousal in the near future to aid her research resources. She now has considerable knowledge of sexual dysfunction and has written many articles on sexual and relationship matters generally for publication on her website. She is also a member of the Guild of Health Writers. Through her contacts with Guild members and interaction with journalists she is proactive in helping to ensure that clear, evidence based information is given to the general public.

As a knowledgeable and stimulating public speaker who cares deeply about people and their relationships, Mary is in demand and is often asked to speak to GP, nursing, counselling and disability groups. She is no stranger to the media and has contributed to articles in most of the popular press, appeared on live radio programmes for BBC local radio stations in London, Leeds, West Midlands, Essex, Surrey, Sussex and Kent and more recently an hour long programme on BBC Surrey answering listeners’ questions. She has appeared several times on The Tricia Programme on Channel 5 and has worked with Channels 4 and 5 and the BBC.  Recently Mary appeared on ITV's This Morning relating to women's sexual difficulties and in particular their orgasmic potential.
